As of my last knowledge update in October 2023 you could buy Bitcoin using Coinbase in the UK. However, please keep in mind that the cryptocurrency space is continually evolving, and regulations may have changed since then. Here are the general steps to buy Bitcoin using Coinbase in the UK:
When ordering from Green Britain you're going to need some crypto to make a purchase. Follow my easy steps below to purchase using Coinbase which is probably the most popular crypto trading app and their fees are very competitive.
1. Sign Up for Coinbase:
- Go to the Coinbase website (https://www.coinbase.com/) and click "Get started" to create an account.
- Provide your email address, create a strong password, and complete the verification process, including identity verification. This often involves providing personal information and documents like a passport or driver's license.
2. Add a Payment Method:
- After your account is verified, you'll need to link a payment method, such as a bank account or debit/credit card.
- Coinbase may ask you to complete a small transaction to verify your payment method. (This is usually no more than £1)
3. Buy Bitcoin / Litecoin:
- Once your payment method is linked and verified, you can buy Bitcoin.
- Go to the Coinbase dashboard and select "Buy/Sell."
- Choose Bitcoin (BTC) or (LTC) as the cryptocurrency you want to buy.
- Enter the amount you want to purchase in GBP, BTC, or LTC
- Review the transaction details, including fees, and click "Buy Bitcoin."
TIP: Always buy more crypto than you need e.g: say you have to pay Green Britain £45 I would buy £50 to cover miners fees & transaction fees from Coinbase.
4. Secure Your Bitcoin:
- After purchasing Bitcoin, it's essential to store it securely. Coinbase provides a wallet service, but it's generally recommended to transfer your Bitcoin to a more secure hardware wallet for added protection.
5. Complete Verification:
- Coinbase may have specific verification requirements for UK users, including complying with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. Be prepared to provide necessary documentation and complete these steps.
6. Stay Informed:
- Keep yourself updated on cryptocurrency regulations in the UK, as they may change over time. Comply with any tax reporting requirements related to cryptocurrency transactions.
7. Use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):
- Enable 2FA on your Coinbase account to enhance security.
Now you have your Bitcoin all you need to do is follow the instructions from Green Britain and send them your Crypto (If your order is £40 or under you'll have to pay using Litecoin or Monero, just follow the same steps as above but pick Litecoin instead of Bitcoin) NOTE: YOU CANNOT BUY MONERO ON COINBASE!
Please note that Coinbase's fees, supported cryptocurrencies, and features may have changed since my last update, so I recommend visiting the Coinbase website or contacting their support for the most up-to-date information and guidance on buying Bitcoin in the UK.
